Daily Telegraph front page featuring the headline

The Daily Telegraph front page highlights an article in the paper by Chancellor Rachel Reeves ahead of the winter fuel payment vote in which she says pensioners are on course for a £1,700 boost under Labour. It says she has revealed internal estimates for state pension rises as she tries to counter a rebellion over the cut. The Guardian leads on the winter fuel payment vote. The prime minister is staying defiant on the cut, says the paper – with Sir Keir Starmer set to restate the government’s tough economic message in a speech to the Trades Union Congress. It adds the chancellor faced down would-be rebels in a private meeting on Monday, and restated the move was necessary to help plug a £22bn gap in the public finances.
