A man in Glasgow has been filmed climbing a lighting installation in Glasgow city centre to rescue a trapped seagull.
The video was posted on social media by Iain Dunlop, a part-time barman who runs a garden maintenance and tree surgery business.
He told the BBC that he was working at the bar on Sauchiehall Street on Sunday night – after the Euro 2024 final – when customers noticed the trapped bird, and that the man who went to the seagull’s aid was a customer.
Mr Dunlop said he has seen seagulls get caught in the street lights at least twice before, adding that the lights in the city centre were “rubbish” and “badly-designed”.
Glasgow City Council says it is not aware of any previous cases of birds becoming trapped in these lights, which were designed to represent the outline of a tree.
